About Tetris

Tetris needs no introduction. Seven shapes fall one at a time, you move and rotate them into place, and a completed row disappears. Clear four rows at once with the long piece and you have a Tetris. The speed climbs with the level, and eventually the stack wins; the score you leave behind is the game.

Alexey Pajitnov wrote it in 1984 and the rules have barely changed since. This is a browser version that keeps the classic feel: no gimmicks, just pieces, rows and speed.

How to Play Tetris

1. Press Play and pieces start falling from the top.
2. Move each piece sideways and rotate it to fit the stack.
3. Fill a complete horizontal row to clear it.
4. Keep going until the stack reaches the top.

Controls

• Left and Right arrows: move the piece.
• Up arrow: rotate. Down arrow: soft drop. Space: hard drop.
• Touch: swipe sideways to move, tap to rotate, swipe down to drop.

Tips and Tricks

• Keep the stack flat and leave one column open for the long piece.
• Do not bury holes. One covered gap costs you several pieces to dig out.
• Use the soft drop rather than the hard drop until you are sure of the placement.
• Once the speed is high, plan the next piece while the current one is still falling.
